Parade Participant Information
When should I arrive?
All parade participants should arrive at Halls Corner in Duxbury (the area of 1 Bay Road/2 Chestnut Street) no later than 1:00 PM. This allows time for the volunteers to organize the flow of the parade. The parade starts at 2:00 PM. Please note, many roads around Hall's Corner are closed to traffic starting at 1:00 PM or earlier.
Floats should be in place on Bay Road by NOON to avoid road closures.
Antique cars should line up at Dunkin Donuts in Halls Corner at NOON to avoid road closures.
Do we need signage for the float?
Floats should have signs on both sides for judges and spectators to view.
What is the parade route?
The parade starts at Halls Corner, travels down Washington Street, turns onto St. George Street and ends at the Duxbury High School. The route is approximately 2 miles.
How long is the parade?
Depending on the number of floats and bands, the parade lasts 1-2 hours.
I'd like to make a float, but I need a truck and trailer. Where can I get one?
There are lots of companies in town who are willing to donate a truck, driver and trailer. See the list here. If you use their services, we suggest giving the driver a generous tip.
Where should parade participants park?
We suggest parade participants get dropped off at Hall's Corner before 1:00 PM and the driver then park at the Duxbury High School (the end of the parade route). A shuttle is available from 12:00 PM to 1:15 PM to bring the driver back to Hall's Corner if necessary.
Should I bring anything to the parade?
We encourage all participants to bring lots of water and wear sunscreen!
When is the judging done?
Judges are located on the Town Green at the beginning of the parade. The Parade Committee contacts the winners after the parade and winners are announced in the Duxbury Clipper. There isn't a presentation of the winners at the end of the parade.
What is the parade's theme?
The 2024 theme is Duxbury Hometown Spirit.
Is there a public bathroom at the parade?
Porta-Potties can be found at the parking lot of 1 Bay Road.
Who organizes the parade?
A dedicated group of volunteers plan the entire celebration. The majority of funds come from donations by local citizens and contributions from local businesses.
I still have questions. Who can I contact?
